Between November 23 to 26, Lisboa will present the final arguments of the application to European Capital of Sport 2021. During these days, will take place the last visit to Lisboa by the evaluation committee of the European Capitals and Cities of Sport Federation (ACES Europe) . The winner will be known on December 6.

Lisboa or The Hague. One of these cities will be European Capital of Sport 2021. For Duarte Cordeiro, "Lisboa is a modern city, which looks at Sport with ambition". By 2021, said the Deputy Mayor and City Councilor for Sport, the City Council will invest around 26 million euro in equipment, either in recovery, as will be the case of the Ajuda Pavilion, or in building new infrastructures.

Duarte Cordeiro was speaking at the press conference held this afternoon, at the Noble Hall of the Towm-Hall, in the presence of ACES Europe President, Gian Francesco Lupattelli, and the Secretary of State for Youth and Sports, João Paulo Rebelo.

The application, whose final dossier was delivered in June 2017, began in May 2016, coordinated by the then City Councilor for Sport, Jorge Máximo.

Lisboa, said Duarte Cordeiro, has received and organized several sports events that have produced around 20 million euro of direct revenue and about 100 million euro of indirect revenue. In recent years, "sports activity in Lisboa is ensured by a group of 900 public and private organizations, which in general are attended by around 223,000 people, women (44.8%) and men ( 55.2%), on a regular basis".

This is "the portrait of a modern Lisboa, with history, but facing the future", finished the Deputy Mayor.

The several programs of Sports in School, notably the Olisipíadas – with around 12 thousand participants, Desporto Mexe Comigo, curricular programs of Physical and Motor Expression, Sea Clubs, Lisboa in the Park, Municipal Center of March and Running, Lisboa Running Center and the Lisboa Parks Circuit, were some of the "arguments" used by the City Council before the jury.
