International Ideas Competition for Praça de Espanha in exhibition

11, December 2017
On December 14, at 6 P.M., in the temporary exhibition gallery of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, will be opened the exhibition “9 Ideias – Parque Praça de Espanha”, which will present the finalist proposals of the International Ideas Competition promoted by the Lisbon Municipal Council for this area of the city. Before, at 4 P.M., will take place at room 1 a conference with the authors of the projects.

In this ideas competition it is proposed the creation, at Praça de Espanha, of a new urban park, in a logic of complementarity and continuity with the Gonçalo Ribeiro Telles Garden in the Gulbenkian Foundation, integrated in the green corridor, connecting the center of Lisbon to the Monsanto Forest Park.

This exhibition, besides evoking the historical memory of the Square, presents in a graphically attractive and accessible way, the projects in competition: their implications for pedestrian circulation, land occupation and local life. Praça de Espanha will become a true square, as a place of social interaction, urban life and centrality.

The goal of this exhibition, mediating the two phases of the competition (the first, launched in March 2017), is to promote a broad debate about the ideas presented, and to collect from its visitors suggestions that will be part of the final recommendations.

With free admission, the exhibition can be visited between December 15, 2017 and January 29, 2018, Wednesday to Monday, from 10 A.M. to 6 P.M. (closed on December 24 and on the Christmas and New Year holidays).

In addition to the conference on December 14, with the design teams, another conference is scheduled for January, at a date to be announced, with the participation of guest experts to discuss the theme “Ideas and concepts around Praça de Espanha”.
