Fernando Medina Maciel Almeida Correia was born in 1973 in Porto.

Has a Degree in Economics by the Faculty of Economics of the University of Porto and a Master’s Degree in Economic Sociology by the School of Economics and Management from de University of Lisboa, with a thesis on economic globalization from an historical perspective.

Advisor to INOFOR during 1998 and 2000, Member of the Working Group of the Ministry of Education during the Portuguese Presidency of the European Union, between 1999 and 2002, advisor to the Prime Minister in the areas of education, science and technology, between 2000 and 2002, and advisor to the President of the Executive Committee of the Portuguese Investment Agency.

During the 17th and 18th Constitutional Governments he was, respectively, Secretary of State for Employment and Vocational Training and Assistant Secretary of State for the Minister of Economy.

In 2011 he was head for the list of the Socialist Party and elected deputy to the Parliament by the area of Viana do Castelo, a term he held until he was elected, in the last municipal elections, City Councilor and Deputy-Mayor of Lisboa, responsible for the areas of Finance, Human Resources and Tourism.


Currently, he is the Mayor of Lisboa and President of the Lisboa Metropolitan Area.
