Palace built in the 17th century  (1670-1673), on the initiative of D. João de Mascarenhas, 1st Marquis of Fronteira, was rebuilt and expanded after the 1755 earthquake. Country residence of the Marquees of Fronteira, it’s one of the most remarkable and unique solar cores of the country, which stands out for the harmony and proportion of the forms, as well as for its decorative richness. The chapel, the coat of arms in the gantry, the court of honor, the vestibule, the galleries, the staircase and the gardens deserve a special reference. Regarding architectural decoration the wainscots of historical and allegoric tiles, plasterwork, marbles and marbled painting are also worthy of highlight. The classification as National Monument encompasses the palace, gardens, vegetable garden and the forest of the Marquees of Fronteira. Currently, the Fronteira and Alorna Houses Foundation works here.
