Sophia de Mello Breyner at Panteão Nacional

04, July 2014

On July 2, the remains of the poet, civic activist, deputy of the Constituent Assembly (in 1975-6) and cultural woman Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen (1919-2004) were translated from the Carnide Cemetery to the Panteão Nacional, at Santa Engrácia church, fulfilling a decision of the Parliament. This decision was taken in order to honor "the universal writer, dignified woman, the courageous citizen, the eminent portuguese", and remember her example of "loyalty to the values of freedom and justice".
